We met up with team MoCat, who are running over 600 miles to raise money for the rainforests to prevent climate change! The money will be going to the Size of Wales Forest Project in Brazil (Delivery Partner: Christian Aid). Moses started as an intern with Christian Aid and wanted to do something to stop climate change and the way it was affecting people’s lives in developing countries.
If you’re reading this and you like running – don’t worry we’re not going to ask you to run 600 miles - but anyone and everyone can ‘Join Team Size’ this year, we want the people of Wales to run the Size of Wales! – the perimeter is 1027 miles! We need as many runners as possible to join in, whether it’s a lunchtime run in your workplace or join us for half marathon on 10th June. Let us know if you’re interested here.
We asked team MoCat some questions, here’s what they said:
Moses is from Uganda, he’s running from Edinburgh to London (via Cardiff)! We caught up with him and the Senedd, here’s what he said:
1. Are you in any pain running so far?
“I can’t explain how painful it is! I’m on painkillers! (he hobbled down the stairs holding onto the banister!) but when I’m running I get into a rhythm and it’s less painful than walking!”
2. How many days is it taking you to run this epic distance?
“I’m on day 12 of 16 days”
3. What motivates you?
“I wanted to bring attention to climate change. I think we’ve tipped the balance in this world and we need to be stewards of the world”.
Cat is cycling the same distance, we asked her:
1. How do you avoid the motorways from Cardiff to London?
“We’re not allowed on motorways anyway. We plan our route on b roads and using ‘map my run’”
2. What motivates you?
“People are living through the devastation of losing their homes and livelihoods in developing countries because of climate change. Id’ to it again if it meant they didn’t have to go through that”
So far team MoCat have raised over £2,800 for the Size of Wales Brazil Project, run by Christian Aid.
They’re still accepting sponsors here: http://www.justgiving.com/run4climatejustice
Size of Wales matches every donation received and therefore they have contributed over £5,400 by their brave act of running and cycling from Edinburgh to London! Fantastic work!
